Nicola Stranieri

Nicola Stranieri first studied drumming with Enrico Lucchini and Tullio De Piscopo, before he completed his musical training attending workshops by Peter Erskine, Enrico Rava and John Riley.

Since the 1980s he's been constantly playing the most famed italian jazz clubs and festivals; he's also played abroad on occasions.

Throughout his career he played with many jazz musicians, such as Ralph Alessi, Gianni Basso, Enrico Rava, Gianni Coscia, Ares Tavolazzi, Claudio Fasoli, Bebo Ferra, Luis Agudo, Franco Cerri, Garrison Fewell, Andrea Pozza, Rosario Bonaccorso, Mauro Negri, Giulio Visibelli, Bob Mover, Johannes Faber, Arrigo Cappelletti, Michael Rosen, Paolo Dalla Porta, Max De Aloe, Carlo Actis Dato, Bruno de Filippi, Barbara Casini, Ada Montellanico, Simone Guiducci, Fausto Beccalossi, Frédéric Viale, Michele Franzini, Alberto Mandarini, Adi Sousa and Yuri Goloubev.

His longtime collaboration with pianist Paolo Paliaga resulted in two albums, both critically acclaimed by the italian and american jazz press ("Cadence", Feb. 1999).

Most recent activities:
He's recently played the 2007 international "Novara Jazz Festival" with Ralph Alessi from New York City on trumpet and pianist Arrigo Cappelletti: the show was recorded and eventually broadcast on RAI Radio 3, and released as "Hard Lights" (Music Center).

He's also featured in two recent releases: "My Jazz Flutes" by the Michele Gori Quartet on Splas(c)h Records, and "Meu Silencio" by the Antonella Montrasio Mudança Quintet, on the Videoradio label.

The combos he regularly plays with are Max De Aloe Quartet, Cappelletti/Alessi/Stranieri Trio, Michele Gori Quartet, Alberto Barattini Trio, Fiorenzo Bodrato Trio (featuring Carlo Actis Dato).

Didactical activities:
He teached drums at the "Civico Istituto Musicale Brera" in Novara and at the "A. Toscanini" music school in Verbania.
He's also teached at the "Centro Teatro Attivo" in Milan, Tullio De Piscopo's drum course.
Currently he's teaching at the "Scuola di Musica Dedalo" in Novara, in which he also coordinates the jazz and modern music sections.
