Luigi Liani

Luigi Liani, pianist was born in London
and lives in Venice, Italy where he graduated in Anglo American
literature.
He studied piano, harmony and history
of music at the Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello and jazz piano with
Franco D’Andrea at the CSM in Milan.
Co-founder and president of "Musikarte" a cultural
association that organizes musical and multi media events specifically related
to jazz.
These are some of the events that he has
organized and produced:
The concert-lecture "Ritmo e Blues" (a
small history of jazz) with which he took part in the convention "Il jazz e
gli scrittori" organized by the Mestre (Venice) Municipal Library for high
school students.
"Jazz e
linguaggi" (history, music, literature, poetry) a series of multi media
events sponsored by the Council for youth of the Venice Municipality and by the
Social service of the Padoa Municipality.
These events
featured the show "From new Orleans to Harlem" (the roots of afro
american music) performed by the Luigi Liani sextet with American singer
Cheryl Porter, a photographic exhibition related to the world
of jazz and the show "Jazz, jive and jam" dedicated to the poetry of
Langston Hughes.
Luigi Liani currently
performs with his trio and quartet.
The Luigi Liani
sextet and Cheryl Porter performed at Jazz Festival Euromeet and opened
New Orleans painter Tony Green's exhibition of water colours of
jazz musicians at Jazz Festival Jazz & Image at Villa Celimontana
in Rome.
Two are his most recent projects: "Ask your Mama Quintet" with
Francesco
Bearzatti (tenor sax), Kyle Gregory (trumpet), Luigi
Liani (piano and vocals), Guido Torelli (double bass) and Paolo
Mappa (drums) with a repertoire partly based on a series of poems by
Langston Hughes.
Gospel Nativity from the Christmas gospel song
play "Black Nativity" by Langston Hughes that was performed last
Christmas in three churches of the Venice area with Wendy Lewis as solo
singer, the vocalists Alice Liani, Saba De Rossi and Betty
Squizzato, Beppe Pilotto on double bass and Palolo Mappa on
drums.
