The Nuevo Tango Ensamble was founded in
1999 by Pasquale Stafano's and Gianni Iorio's idea with
the intent to propose the Astor Piazzolla's music. Such experience has raised in the group an increasing interest that has quickly become a deep passion, fed by a flattering public confirmation. Since about 3 years the trio are presenting the project of tango-jazz "A night for Astor" which Piazzolla's composition are played with jazz improvisations. With the musical project "A night for Astor", Nuevo Tango Ensamble exhibited
in Europe in prestigious Theaters (Paesiello in Lecce, Abeliano in Bari, Giordano
in Foggia, Eliseo in Rome, Regio in Turin, Lauro Rossi in Macerata, Nymphenburg
Castle in Munchen) and In 2001 is been published the first
CD "Astor's Mood",
released on July 2002 by the classical label
REALSOUND.
On the wake of his passion for the jazz, he has frequented in the year 1996 the course of musical improvement "C. P. M. Siena Jazz" with Mauro Grossi and Marco Tamburini and in July 1999 that of "Pescara Jazz", with the pianist and composer Brandon McCune, teacher of piano in Columbia Jazz School in Chicago. In the year 2000 have achieved with the maximum one some votes the Diploma in Jazz near the Conservatory of Music "U. Giordano" of Foggia. he has participated in numerous national and international competitionof piano, of contemporary music and jazz, always placing himself to the first places. he undertaken the concert career exhibiting himself in Italy and to the foreign countries within important musical demonstrations is as soloist is in formation, getting anywhere flattering consents of criticism and public. He has collaborated and continuous to collaborate with different jazz players of clear fame what: Fabrizio Bosso, Stefano Cantini, Marco Tamburini, Pierpaolo PECORIELLO, Michele Carrabba, Max Ionata, Gustavo TOKER, Roberto OTTAVIANO , Javier Girotto and others. Parallelly to the jazz studies, he has cultivated the passion for the sudameric music and particularly for the Argentinian Tango, reaching to found, in 1999, in collaboration with the bandoneon player Gianni IORIO, the group "Nuevo Tango Ensamble." With the quintet he has participated in different national and international competition among which the important Piazzolla International Music Award, only contest to the turned world to groups that interpret the music of the Argentinian composer, where he has respectively achieved in the 2001 edition and in that of 2002 a second and a third Prize. In November 2001 he has recorded with the quintet an CD entitled ASTOR'S MOOD produced by the record label REAL SOUND, reviewed in flattering way by important national musical periodicals what: CD CLASSICS, Music, Sipario and others. The CD is all over the world currently on sale in fourteen Countries, among which United States and Japan. In the summer 2002 and 2003 with the Nuevo Tango Ensamble are exhibited in a tour in the numerous Italian cities with the entitled show "Noche Argentina" within the International Festival "A BRIDGE AMONG CULTURES" patronized from the Italian embassy and Argentina, with famous musicians and Argentinian ballet dancer (Joe Corbata y Edith Paez, Omar Caceres y Vidala Barboza, Kokj y Pajarin Saavedra, Omar Bolivar). Besides the pianistic activity, its attention also turns to the composition and the arrangement; in fact, often in its concerts it proposes unpublished compositions and arrange of famous passages that enjoy of notable consents of criticism and public. In 1998 to the National Competition "C. Vitale" held him to Fasano (BR), he has achieved the Diploma of honor of First Prize and a special Prize for the arrange to six voices for choir of the Neapolitan classical passage "Reginella" (of Bovio-blade). It develops besides an intense didactic activity as teacher of piano and jazz near schools of music deprived and government schools and, for this, he has brightly received different certificates of worth as teacher of winning students in national piano competition. In 2002 and he has been invited as
external Commissioner to the examinations of Diploma of Jazz at the Conservatory
U. Giordano of Foggia.
Since the first months of study results winning of numerous music piano competition national and international; they are to remember the first prize to the contest "A.M.A. Calabria" of Lamezia Terme (editions 1983 and 1991), the first prize in the contests of Sannicandro Garganico, San Ferdinando of Puglia, Barletta, Caserta and Naples, where in 1992 he has won the first absolute prize to the contest "G.B. Pergolesi." In 1994 he has received, from the Direction of the Conservatory, the Nomination of "Student of the year" getting a scholarship devoted American J. Cage to the composer and as soloist with the Symphonic orchestra "U. Giordano" of Foggia. In May 1993 he has gotten the first absolute prize to the piano music competition "Agorà80" in the city of Rome where in the same city finalist results, recently as well as third prize, to the contest "Carla Fineschi" near the university of the Sacred Heart. Besides the contests he has sustained numerous concerts near important musical associations in the principal Italian cities: Bari, Cosenza, Pescara, Rimini, Naples, Rome, Teramo, Genoa, Milan, Venice etc. He collaborates with numerous instrumentalists of any musical extraction especially in formations of duo, trio and quartet, sustaining varied concerts and national and international contests of room music among which you/they detach: the first absolute prize at the music competition "Euterpe" of Corato city, the first absolute prize with mention to competition "I. Strawinsky" of Bari, the first prize to the 3o Internatinal Competition of Music "M. Polivineo Tribute" of Teramo, to the "Joseph Vignali" of Verucchio, to the competition "City of the Vast one", the second prize to the competition "Franz Schubert" of Tagliolo Monferrato and the fourth prize to the international contest "Lario in music" of Varenna. He has sustained numerous courses of improvement with pianists of international fame what: Massimo Bertucci, Jorg Demus, Carlo Bruno, Franco Scala and Sergio Perticaroli. Since the most precocious age he has always placed side by side to the study of the piano that of the accordion. Pushed by a great passion for this tool, in 1990 he has achieved the diploma of Classical Accordion near the C.D.M.I. (Center Didactic Musical Italian) with the maximum one of the votes and the praise. In 1986 and 1987, he has consecutively won the first absolute prize to accordion national music competition " City of Rocca San Zenone" province of Terni In 1988 he has gotten the first absolute prize to the national trophy "City of Genoa." Besides the contests, also as accordionist, he has sustained numerous concerts in Italy and to the foreign countries, among which they are to remember the exhibitions near Building Barberini and the Theater Eliseo of Rome, International Festival of Tagliacozzo, International Festival of Fivizzano (Massa Carrara), etc... In 1999 he has founded (with the pianist Pasquale Stafano) the instrumental group "Nuevo Tango Ensamble" with which has recorded the entitled CD "Astor's mood", entirely devoted to the music of Astor Piazzolla and produced from the record house "REAL SOUND". With this formation he has already undertaken an admirable artistic run, getting the first prize to the national music competition "Pietro Argento" of Gioia Del Colle (Bari) and the second prize to the international competition "Astor Piazzolla" of Castelfidardo (Ancona).
Diego Conti finished
his musical studies at the Mozarteum Academy of Salzburg under the guidance of Maestro
Sandor Vegh, and started his career playing with several prestigious groups
such as the Mozarteum's Camerata Academica in Salzburg, the Solisti Veneti and the
Chamber Orchestra of Europe. After that he performed as concert master with important
italian orchestras, like Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and V.Bellini Theatre in Catania,
finally devoting himself to a solo career that brought and brings him to tour in
Europe, South Africa, USA, Canada, India, Middle and Far East. He works for radio,
television and cinema, and recorded for EMI, RCA Victor, Erato, Nuova Era, Harmonia
Mundi, Edipan and Sculture d'Aria. His world premiere of L'arte del violino, of
P.A.Locatelli, was considered by the english magazine Gramophone best recording
of the year, and the same was for the italian newspaper L'Unità about his recording
of Zappa, Lutoslawski, Lupone and Pärt. Alessandro TERLIZZI graduated in double bass with the maximum one of the votes at the conservatory of Music Niccolò Piccinni in Bari with the M° Giovanni Rinaldi in July 2003. He has participated in the International Seminars of Orchestral Formation within the 28° and the 30° Musical Summer Frentana and to the masterclass held by the M° F.Petracchi in September 2001 at the Saloon Nino Rota of the Conservatory of Music of Monopoli (Ba). He has held concerts for different associations among which Nova Artistudium, Foundation Orchestrates Niccolò Piccinni; Touring Juvenatium, Foundation Umberto Giordano of Foggia. He has played with the ensemble S.I.X.E. (Italian Sound for Europe) founded by the foundation CEMAT in Rome with the collaboration of the EUYO (Europian Youth Orchestrates). From November 2000 he plays with the guitar orchestra De Falla. From 2003 it is the contrabbassista of the quintet Nuevo Tango Ensamble, formation with which he has held concerts in Italy. He has participated in the "permanent Forum of the Italian composers" performing "Evocation" for flute and double bass of Sarah Torquati.
