Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola was packed for tonight's second set, with Italian Jazz Days drawing the New York Italian community and jazz fans in the Tri-State area. It was a huge treat to have three artists from Italy, and one from the US, Joey DeFrancesco, a renowned Hammond B3 organist. Rosario Giuliani was on alto sax, Lucio Ferrara on guitar, and Nicola Angelucci on drums. The set opened with "Bye Bye Blackbird", and DeFrancesco's rambunctious keyboard took the crowd on a whirl. Giuliani picked up the theme on alto sax, with Ferrara on his heels, as his breezy guitar joined in energetic harmony. Soon DeFrancesco and Giuliani struck up an organ-sax conversation, with atonal effects. "Footprints" by Wayne Shorter arrived like a speeding train, with Ferrara's guitar racing in vibrant urgency. Blues went wild, and Angelucci was unstoppable on a magnetic drum riff.

Giuliani's "Dream House" opened with the composer on alto sax, and numerous sax riffs followed in mixed melodic motifs. The finale was lively, featuring DeFrancesco's "Estate", led by his spirited Hammond B3 keyboard. Each phrase added more momentum, while Angelucci's drums took center stage. This was a great night at Dizzy's.
