Charlie Parker Birthday Celebration

Fri & Sat August 26 & 27

Tribute to Bird-The Music of Charlie Parker

Bebop architect and legend, Charlie Parker was born on August 29, 1920 and his birthday is still the occasion of worldwide festivals and concerts celebrating his life and work. For several years, Smoke has hosted a popular Bird Tribute that this year features alto master Mike DiRubbo and the consummate sideman and legendary pianist Richard Wyands. This dynamic quintet of modern beboppers-also including trumpeter Jeremy Pelt, bassist John Webber, and drummer Joe Farnsworth-reaffirms Parker's enduring importance.
